A sports club in Wexford has been left in financial and logistical turmoil after its construction contractor went into liquidation. Bunclody AFC had invested €313,000 in an all-weather facility, expecting it to open in two months. The project, however, remains incomplete as Clearwater Construction, the firm responsible for the work, is set to enter liquidation.
The club had paid a significant portion of the €600,000 budget but now faces the challenge of finishing the remaining work without the contractor’s support. The facility, intended to host multiple sports, was a key part of the club’s development plans. With the contractor’s sudden closure, the club is left to find alternative solutions to complete the project.
Clearwater Construction, based in Grangecon, Co Wicklow, had been working on several projects across Wexford and Waterford. Sports clubs in the region were caught off guard by the firm’s abrupt shutdown, with some reporting no prior notice. The lack of communication has left clubs scrambling to manage unfinished projects and unpaid invoices.
This incident highlights the risks faced by local sports organizations relying on private contractors for essential infrastructure. The collapse of Clearwater Construction underscores the need for greater financial oversight and contingency planning in such ventures. Clubs are now forced to reassess their strategies to ensure future projects are not left in limbo.
