Residents in Waterford gathered on Thursday for a public demonstration following the hacking of Garda social media accounts. Over 100 participants attended the event, which was organized in response to the recent cyberattack. The demonstration took place in the city center, near the main police station.

The hacked accounts included official Garda pages on Facebook and Twitter, which were temporarily taken over by unknown actors. The breach occurred late on Wednesday, disrupting communication between law enforcement and the public. No sensitive data was reportedly stolen, but the incident raised concerns about cybersecurity practices within public institutions.

This is not the first time Waterford has seen public concern over digital security. In 2022, a similar incident led to a citywide review of online protocols. Local officials have since implemented additional measures, but community leaders argue these are not sufficient. The latest breach has prompted calls for a broader national strategy on cybersecurity.
