Munster has reaffirmed its support for head coach Gavin Coombes following the Union Rugby Club (URC) independent disciplinary committee's decision to clear Tadhg Furlong of any wrongdoing. The ruling came after allegations that Furlong had allegedly grabbed Coombes' groin during a match.
The URC panel found no evidence to substantiate the claims against Furlong. As a result, the player is free to participate in Ireland's upcoming fixtures. Munster's interim CEO, Avan Lee, expressed confidence in Coombes, stating the club remains fully behind him regardless of the outcome.
This incident followed a contentious moment during a recent game, which sparked public debate and internal discussions within the club. The disciplinary process was initiated to address the alleged misconduct, but the panel concluded that the claims lacked sufficient support.
Coombes, who has been under pressure following the incident, is now assured of continued backing from the club. The decision highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain a professional and respectful environment within the team. The ruling also underscores the club's commitment to upholding standards in both on-field and off-field conduct.
