A man drove a car onto Krakow’s main square and began shooting at random people, according to a Krakow police spokesman. Five people were killed and around a dozen were wounded in the attack. The incident occurred on a busy street in the heart of the city.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots before the vehicle came to a stop. The suspect was identified as a local resident. Police have not yet released details about the motive behind the attack.
This is the second mass shooting in Kraków this year. In March, a similar incident took place at a public event, resulting in three deaths and multiple injuries. Authorities have since increased security measures in public spaces.
The shooting has sparked a national conversation about gun control in Poland. The government has faced criticism for its lenient stance on firearm ownership. In the wake of the attack, officials have called for stricter regulations.
The incident has also raised concerns about public safety in the city. Local officials have announced plans to review security protocols at major landmarks. The police are currently investigating the case and have not yet made any arrests.
