Ireland’s oldest lifeboat station, located in Wicklow, is set to commemorate 200 years of lifesaving efforts with a special gala dinner. The event will take place at the station’s headquarters, where the tradition of maritime rescue began in 1824. The celebration will include speeches, a display of historical equipment, and a ceremonial re-launch of a vintage lifeboat.

The station, which has operated continuously since its founding, has been instrumental in saving countless lives along Ireland’s coast. Over the past two centuries, it has responded to numerous maritime emergencies, including shipwrecks and distress calls. The gala will also feature guest speakers, including local officials and representatives from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Established in 1824, the lifeboat station in Wicklow is one of only a few in Ireland to have maintained uninterrupted service for over 180 years. It has played a key role in the development of coastal safety in the region and remains an active part of the RNLI network. The 200th anniversary marks a significant milestone in the station’s long history of dedication to maritime rescue.
