Former Kerry boss Éamonn Fitzmaurice has been appointed as the new senior football manager of Galway, following a three-year term agreement. The decision was confirmed by the Galway GAA, who called a board meeting to ratify the appointment. Fitzmaurice, known for his role in the Jim Gavin-chaired Football Review Committee, is set to take charge of the team.
Fitzmaurice was previously a prominent figure in Kerry football, both as a player and a manager. He had little intention of returning to inter-county management but was approached by Galway chairman Paul Bellew with a proposal. The move comes after Fitzmaurice was considered a top contender for the vacant Galway position.
Fitzmaurice’s appointment follows a period of speculation about the future of Galway football management. Pádraig Joyce, the previous manager, has stepped down, creating a vacancy that Fitzmaurice is now filling.
