A worker died nearly two months after an industrial explosion at the Stryker plant in Carrigtwoill, Cork, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred in early September, leading to a formal investigation into health and safety violations. John Murphy, 42, was hospitalized following the explosion but passed away in late November.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has opened an inquiry into the incident, citing potential breaches of regulations. Initial reports indicated the explosion occurred during routine maintenance. Stryker, a medical device manufacturer, has not yet issued a public statement.

This is not the first incident at the Cork site. In 2022, a similar explosion injured three workers. The HSA previously issued warnings about safety conditions. The current case has raised concerns about ongoing compliance with industrial safety standards.

The HSA is expected to release its findings by early 2025. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in industrial safety in the region. Local unions have called for stricter oversight. The case remains under investigation.
